As sustainability becomes more and more important as the planet continues to suffer due to our actions, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing courses that are focussed on fashion and sustainability, many of which are completely free.

Sustainability and minimising the impact to the planet is a key brand goal at FR3ND. Our products have been designed and developed to reduce the impact to our planet, not only in their production, but throughout the lifetime of the garments as you wear and wash it.

Much of our learning about how to reduce our carbon footprint and produce our sustainable shirts have come from course like those highlighted below.

We hope you enjoy them.

The course offers a dual approach to fashion, both as a cultural phenomenon and as a creative industry. It is taught by Professor Benjamin Simmenauer, who teaches brand strategy at the school.

Several Professors from Institut Français de la Mode and academic experts also provide input on historical, economic, sociological or aesthetical perspectives.

In order to remain as close as possible to the realities of fashion and luxury today, the MOOC also offers video testimonials from major business leaders and fashion designers like Simon Porte (Founder & Designer, Jacquemus), Francesca Belletini (CEO, Saint Laurent) or Sidney Toledano (Chairman and CEO, LVMH Fashion Group).

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

Develop transdisciplinary knowledge and expertise aimed at understanding the logics of the contemporary fashion field

Identify the creative models of the different fashion houses and their conception of time

Explore the trends diffusion models

INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY

This course introduces the academic approach of Sustainability and explores how today’s societies can endure in the face of global climate change, ecosystem degradation and resource limitations.

The course focuses on the key areas of sustainability, including population, ecosystems, global change, energy, agriculture, water, environmental economics and policy, ethics, and cultural history.

This subject is of vital importance, seeking as it does to uncover the principles of the long-term welfare of all the peoples of the planet. As sustainability is a cross-disciplinary field of study, this foundation requires intellectual breadth: as I describe it in the class text, understanding our motivations requires the humanities, measuring the challenges of sustainability requires knowledge of the sciences (both natural and social), and building solutions requires technical insight into systems (such as provided by engineering, planning, and management).
