Our tailored merino shirts are made from luxurious superfine merino wool that offers you supreme comfort, practicality and performance like no other and with eco credentials that limit the impact on the world's resources and environment.
Our easy-care, non-iron performance shirts use natural fibres made from superfine merino wool rather than synthetic fibres like typical non-iron shirts. Superfine merino wool is peerless when it comes to performance and our shirts feature many additional performance features over a traditional shirt.
Anti-Bacterial
Sweat contains water, salt and oils that wicks onto the fabric next to your skin. Due to their structure, synthetic fibres naturally trap the salt and oils and then breed bacteria which create the bad smell synonymous with polyester blended fabrics. Merino wool has a smooth structure that doesn’t allow the salt and oils to cling to and also do not hold a static charge, unlike synthetic fibres, which makes superfine merino even less attractive to bacteria.
Non-Itch
There is a misconception that Merino wool is itchy, however, because we use only the best quality superfine merino wool fibres that have fine, smooth fibres that produce a silky soft, non-prickle handle.
Temperature Regulation
Merino sheep live in some pretty harsh conditions, exposed to temperatures as high as +40º in the summer and -20º in deep winter. They have evolved to maintain their comfort in these extreme conditions and this evolution of heat regulation is passed onto you when you wear merino wool, keeping you cool when it’s hot and warm when it's not. This makes it the perfect travel shirt, travelling between different continents that can have huge temperature differences.
Stain Resistant
We have finished our superfine merino wool shirts with a water-resistant treatment to repel water and stains, making sure you stay dry if you unexpectedly get caught in a light shower. Your shirt will also remain clean, even if you decide to share your lunch with your shirt!
Eco
Protecting the planet is the cornerstone behind why we launched FR3ND and this is why we have chosen ingredients that are sustainable and biodegradable. Merino is a natural fibre that needs nothing more than water and grass to grow and the buttons we use are made from shells, again, much better for the environment than using typical plastic buttons.
Biodegradable
It’s not just the fact that both of these ingredients are natural and biodegradable, but when you wash your merino shirt, you can feel confident that any tiny fibres that eventually get washed into the sea are not causing further impact to the environment. In fact, recent studies conclude that 100% of merino fibres completely degrade before they even reach the sea.
Natural Fibers
After many years of wear, the merino material will degrade 100% within a landfill within a couple of months. A synthetic non-iron shirt will take over 50 years to even start to degrade and when it does, the toxic chemicals remain in the soil.
We have selected CO DWR treatment rather than the typical C8 or C6 that are both highly toxic to the environment. C0 DWR is PFC-free and contains by-products and short carbon chains that break down much faster in the environment and with less potential toxicity over time to wildlife and fish.
Wash Less & Help Save the World
Our merino shirts have been engineered to not need as much washing as synthetic shirts which is the biggest cause of breaking down fibres and therefore slowly destroying the fabric.
We use the very best merino fibres and skilled labour to produce a product that will last for years. The additional benefit of using merino fibres means your skirt will not attract bacteria like synthetic blended non-iron skirts do and this means your shirt will not stink. This along with the crease-free ability of the fabric allows you to wear the shirt day after day after day…. (you get the gist) without the need to wash it.
If you reduce the amount you need to wash your clothing, this not only increases the life of your merino shirt but reduces the energy and water used for every wash. Doing a typical load of laundry every couple of days creates over 950lbs of Co2 every year and if you multiply this by everyone who washes their shirts after every wear, this figure is seriously scary.
